About

My name is Edmundo Ruiz Ghanem (I have and use two last names because of Spanish naming customs). I’m a Venezuelan-American immigrant living in Philadelphia, USA. I’ve liked computers since I first saw one in my childhood, so I spend a lot of time in that world. This is my personal website.

My Work

I’m a software designer / developer focused on user experience problems such as user interfaces (UI) and playful experiences (games, toys). I got a degree in Computer Science and have a Masters from Carnegie Mellon University in Entertainment Technology (interactive media design and development.)

Most recently, my day job has been focused on front-end and light full-stack work on B2B apps. I learned a lot about data syncs at Airbyte and Grouparoo (acquired by Airbyte), and worked at Drift on the reporting, search, and chat widget.

I’m also an adjunct faculty in the Interactive Media program at Harrisburg University, where I teach one course per semester focused on Video Game Design or User Interfaces.

For a while, I was in the video game industry and worked on a number of titles at Disney, Electronic Arts, Schell Games, and Zynga. My focus was on UI, systems programming, game software architecture, and shipping fast. Many of the projects I’ve worked on were sunset or were remade by other companies, but the one I’m most proud of are:

Since I started college, I’ve been on and off involved with an open-source game development tool called Adventure Game Studio, and it has become a hobby (side hustle? I hate that term) for life. Around 2010, I created an inbetweening module, which has been one of the most popular addons to the engine, and recently have been making contributions to the game engine and editor. I’ve collaborated with many solo game devs who use AGS, and primarily have been working behind-the-scenes for games created by Grundislav Games and Wadjet Eye Games.

My Life

I’m a parent and share a lot of my time with my little one. I also enjoy recording videos, cooking, riding my bicycle, and playing non-violent indie video games or any Nintendo made ever game. You can follow me to see what I’m up to.

This Website

This is a place where I will post about myself, projects that I’m working on, or problems that I’m thinking about that are not related to my job or my company.

This is a static site made with Hugo with a modified Paper theme, currently hosted on Vercel. It’s always work in progress. The site generates an RSS feed to follow and hope to syndicate in other social media platforms soon.
